None of us want a slow process, neither offline nor online. If we are working offline on our computer or laptop then that should be fast enough and if we are working online then the internet connection should also be fast enough because we all hate INTERRUPTIONS in our work. Some friends of mine have asked me personally that how to speed up my PC without any software or techie stuff, I told them some of the easiest ways which gave me a positive response and thought you would also be in search of that so this post is for you my online friend.

The one thing you should get into your head is that doing these things will not make your Quad core processor work like an Intel i7 but yes the difference in the speed will be good enough to continue your work without any hassle.

NOTE – This trick is for windows users.

1.) Clear The Temporary Files :-

You may not be knowing that your computer stores temporary files which ultimately slows down you computer. You open a software, browse something on your PC then some files like Cookies gets stored in the Temp folder which are just like junk and of no use. Clearing this will definitely speed up your PC. Just do this –

Click on start button >> then in the search box type “%temp%” (without quotes) >> Open the Temp folder >> Select all files >> Press Shift+Delete to permanently delete all the files.

C drive >> Users >> Karan (your account) >> App Data >> Local >> Temp

2.) Clear Prefetch :-

Again in the C drive of your computer there are some files which are of no use, neither to us nor to our computers. Clear these too, follow the path –

C drive >> Windows >> Prefetch >> Select all files >> Press Shift+Delete key to permanently delete it.

If it asks for permission to open the “Prefetch” folder then click on continue.

If you delete them without pressing the shift key then they will go to the recycle bin and you’ll have to delete them from there too separately, so better is this you press the shift key while deleting to save your time and energy.

3.) Disk Defragmentation :-

Defragment tool can increase the speed as well as the efficiency of your system, you need not to download anything because this feature is an inbuilt one provided by windows. Follow these steps :

  • Click on “My Computer” (or any name you’ve kept).
  • Select the drive you want to defragment.
  • Right click on the drive and click on properties option.
  • A dialogue box will appear, from there choose the “Tools” tab.
  • You’ll see an option like “Defragment now” or “Defragment Disk”. Press that button.
  • It may take some time, so be patient. Do this for all drives.

4.) Uninstall Unwanted Programs :-

While downloading something from the internet, some useless add-on also gets installed. I had too suffered this problem, some unwanted software got installed and then it started creating problems in my browsers, showing useless heavy ads, changed my homepage and default search engine, deleting that solved the problem for me.

  • Visit “Control panel” and look for the Programs option.
  • Click on Uninstall program and it will show the list of all the software installed on your PC.
  • Look at the dates and see if something recently got installed on your computer without your knowledge in the past few days, if you find any program then uninstall it.

If you are unsure of any software, then do search for it on the internet to see what is this software for. This could help you making decision that whether to delete or keep the software.

5.) Check Errors :-

Your drives might be in a need of some fixing. Check out the error and let the windows fix it for you :

  • Right click on the drive you want to check for errors.
  • Select properties option and then click on Tools tab.
  • You’ll see an option like “Error Checking”. Click on it.

6.) Install A Good Anti-Virus :-

This will protect your PC from getting malware and harmful programs into it. Getting a good anti virus also ensures of you of a safe and virus free browsing as you download number of things from the internet and anyone of them could be corrupted. Even some websites also contains malicious things on it which could cause harm, you can block websites on your computer as well which you think are a threat.
