We all use USB drives for saving files and carrying it with us as these external devices are portable and easy to carry, although there is another method of carrying the files and that is by saving it to cloud storage but that requires internet to be operated and if you don’t have internet connection at the place you are traveling to then pen drives are perfect for the purpose and you should password protect USB drive.
Sometimes we do not want others to explore our files and it is always good to protect them. There are software for the purpose of securing pen drives with password but here I am not gonna use any software for this, the methods I am going to tell does not include any third party tool. One method will help you secure your whole USB drive using Bitlock encryption and other will tell you how you can secure selected files in USB drive.

Method 2-Secure Selected Files
The above method encrypted and locked the whole pen drive but in case you only want to lock some selected files then this method is for you so that no one other than you can open or edit that file.
This way you’ll be able to protect particular files but this method applies only to those applications which allow us to encrypt files like MS word or MS Excel. It involves 3 simple steps.
1.) Open the file which you want to lock, then click on “Microsoft Office Button” at the top left corner.
2.) Now from this list hove over your mouse cursor to “Prepare” option.
3.) From the options displayed, click on “Encrypt Document”, it will ask you to enter the password, just type in your pass key and save it.
NOTE – You will not be able to open the file if you forget your password, so store it in a safe place for more security.
